As the Friends Christian School administration, we know and recognize that our students may have been presented with some learning gaps due to school closures and the switch to online learning. To help bridge the academic gaps that may have occurred, and to supplement learning that might have been lost through the shuffle, FCS has purchased two new digital products to help provide support for students this summer and the following school year. We believe it will benefit your student academically to engage in these two platforms over the summer.
MyON (1st - 8th)
Freckle (K-8th)
Simply increasing students’ access to reading materials can increase reading engagement and, in turn, reading growth. With myON Reader and myON News, students get access to thousands of digital books and current news articles—and so much more. From robust scaffolds that help students build reading and writing skills at their own level. myON Reader helps supercharge reading growth for every learner. Most books will be connected to an Accelerated Reader Quiz. Students will not be quizzing from home at this time. In the fall they are welcome to take quizzes on the books they have read over the summer!
User names and passwords are the same that students have used this year for logging on to AR.
The only change in Password is the first 3 letters of your last name is now lower case.
Example:
User Name: janedoe Password: doe1234
Freckle is an online learning platform that allows students to practice Math and English Language Arts at their own level. Freckle continuously adapts to each student’s individual skills, so each student is getting the appropriate challenge, whether they’re working at, above, or below grade level. Students start off in Freckle with a pre-test to determine their perfect starting point. These tests are each 12 questions or less. From there, students can practice at their own level in Freckle at any time. According to new research (Oreopoulos, Education Week, 2020) examining the effectiveness of “ed-tech” interventions, computer-assisted learning programs such as Freckle stood out for improving academic performance. These programs allow students to move at their own pace and it provides feedback and help when prompted.
