Fifth grade at Friends Christian Middle School (FCMS) in Yorba Linda presents students with the special opportunity to get a “jump start” on middle school. The curriculum caters to all different types of learners, making it an attractive program to parents and students alike.
Guided by passionate and caring teachers, 5th grade students learn the foundation of our rich Biblically focused curriculum with elements of STEM infused throughout, which helps equip them with the necessary skills for succeeding in the world today. Additionally, the curriculum equips them with the tools to become leaders for Christ all while building character and confidence in their daily lives.
We’re often asked what a typical day in 5th grade looks like at FCMS. Midway through the year, our current 4th grade students and their parents are invited to spend the day as a 5th grader on campus to observe all-things 5th grade. This is the perfect opportunity for our current students to see our other campus, interact with students and faculty, and familiarize themselves with the middle school campus.

The day began in chapel… where our students experienced a typical chapel service. They were excited to be a part of the Spirit Tickets drawing hosted by ASB. Their names were included in a special drawing for a free snack! One student from each class was chosen to enjoy a special “Snack Shack” snack!
Immediately after chapel, Our future 5th graders were greeted by Joy Swift, FCMS Principal and Amie Gray, FCMS Assistant Principal. They shared details on elective offerings including choir, band, robotics, praise band, and wheel classes. They also shared about the ever so popular “snack shack” on campus, lunches, designated 5th grade recess time and additional special activities like the Pep Rally and Extreme Games! 5th graders also have the opportunity to join the hockey team!
Next up, time for a tour! Students were given a tour of the campus in order to see and experience the full spectrum of FCMS. While that was happening, their parents received a tour and even had an opportunity for a Q&A with our Admissions Coordinator and members of our Admin team.
Here is a look at the 5th Grade Curriculum at FCMS.
On the tour, students got a glimpse of the art classes, library, newly renovated gym, choir and band room, computer lab, playground, school offices and met the friendly office staff. The day went on and our future 5th graders played some fun games in our gym, ate a delicious lunch, played out on the playground and said their goodbyes to our middle school team as they headed back to Elementary!
